How to check a used car before you buy

, By Николай1 min read

A used car can be a great deal — as long as you know what you are buying. Here is what we check and what you should check too.

The mileage and the history

Ask for the service book or the electronic history. Compare the mileage of the last inspections with the dashboard — a step back means the odometer was turned back.

The paint and the body

A different shade between two panels or uneven gaps show a repair. A paint thickness gauge shows every respray in seconds.

The test drive

Drive both in town and at a higher speed. Listen for noises when turning, check the brakes and whether the car pulls to one side.
